Public consultation on the Evaluation of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive is open

The consultation aims to collect views on how the urban waste water treatment directive (Council Directive 91/271/EEC concerning urban waste water treatment), has affected urban waste water collection and treatment across the EU and thereby improved the state of our water bodies and the environment in general.

The consultation has as objective on the one hand to gather general views from the public on their understanding and relation with (waste) water and on the other hand to gather more detailed information and opinions from experts and public and private entities in charge of implementation on the specificities of the directive.

You can contribute to this public consultation by filling out the online questionnaire via EU Survey.

The questionnaire is accessible in all official EU languages (except Irish). Replies may be submitted in any EU official language.

The questionnaire has two parts. One part aimed at the general public, and one part with more detailed, technical questions aimed at experts. You are invited to reply to both parts of the questionnaire, but you may reply to only one of the parts if you wish.

It will take about 20-30 minutes to answer the questionnaire. You may pause the questionnaire at any time and continue later. Once you have submitted your answers, you can download a copy of your completed responses.

The position is part of a project funded by the Swiss Federal Office for The Environment (FOEN) entitled “Feasibility study for Evaluating the National Pesticide Action Plan (Machbarkeitsstudie Trendanalyse und räumliche Übertragbarkeit von Pestizid-Monitoringdaten)”. The project investigates the feasibility of quantifying reductions of pesticide pollution in Swiss streams triggered by the National Pesticide Action Plan. Specifically, it investigates how well temporal trends in pesticide concentration data series from established monitoring programs can be detected and how such trends can be extrapolated across the Swiss river network. The results from the project will be used to formulate guidelines for practitioners how to evaluate such data in the future. The project will adapt existing model tools to simulate existing pesticide data sets in Switzerland, to estimate predictive uncertainty and to derive practical recommendations for future data analysis.

National Environmental Approximation Strategy for the Republic of Serbia

Great progress has been made over the last decade in strengthening environmental protection in Serbia, yet much remains to be done. A high level of environmental protection is one of the basic objectives enshrined in the EU Treaty, together with the principles of sustainable development and the integration of environmental protection into all policies. Consequently the EU’s environmental policy is wide-ranging and the legislation implementing the policy is extensive.
